"I-Statements"
The "I-Statements" language gives students a positive way to tell someone how they feel about something and what they want. It is said in a calm voice and each person must be a very good listener. This strategy allows for the other person to explain and/or apologize. For example:
" I, feel/felt ________________________ when you _________________________,"
(Describe your feeling) (Say what the person did)
Excited, happy, sad, lonely, angry complimented, helped, teased, ignored
please ____________________________________."
(Say what you want the person to do)
A positive alternative
